Kinja'd!!!9 Kinja'd!!! 46

Hello there! I have been a reader/commenter on here for a few months now, so you may or may not recognize my name. Now, surprisingly there was no party thrown in my honor, but I'll let it go...this time.

Quick intro: My name is Chris and I'm 24. I reside in Cincinnati (for now). I love the outdoors (animals, plants, rocks/fossils, sports, etc.) and art in it's many forms (drawing, painting, photography, cinema, music, cars, etc.). Yes cars are art! Don't give me that, "art can't have a purpose other than its self" bs. I've loved cars ever since gran turismo came out; maybe even before then. My dad worked as a car salesmen as I was growing up, so I was always around cars. I remember we would play games, identifying all the car makes and models when we were driving someplace or even just as they passed us by, walking down a street. Those were good (and simpler) times.

I like all different types of cars, just as long as they're fun and have a stick shift. Don't call me an elitist, I just prefer them. I choose to drive only manual transmissions for a number of reasons (aside from them being downright fun). One reason is that I have ADD and it helps me to focus on driving; where as I find myself losing focus in automatics. Another reason is that I enjoy experiencing the analog in this irritatingly digital world. Too many things have become digital, some call it progress; I do not.

Currently, I drive a mostly stock '96 M Edition Miata. I call her my mini fd, as the real fd is my dream car and quite possibly the best sports car ever made (fact). I have come to love my Miata over the last couple of months of working on her here and there; as well as learning her mannerisms and such. She's truly a great car, of which I was thrilled to find a review of (shortly after buying her) on none other than !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ! It was written by Travis Okulski to give credit, where credit's due and it was a fine write up that is worth checking out if you care to.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Anyway, I'm tired as hell; so I'll leave you with a couple pictures of my car (taken on my iphone4):

Ohio Miata Owners group, very active with lots of events. It's just about one of the only reasons I go on facebook. I live in Chillicothe and they are also hooked up with Buckeye Miata Club that does autocrosses at a kart track in Circleville.

I haven't auto crossed ever actually. I have taken her on a few sick roads though...the best of which being "devil's whip" in NC. Amazing road, made my buddy sick lol. Is Wilmington Pad cool?

Wilmington Pad is pretty good, it's one of the national sites. It's an airport that was shutdown in Wilmington Ohio and is the Cincy SCCA local spot.

Yeah I figured it might be that way. Funny thing is there used to be an autocross down at the River Downs parking lot (within sound range from my house). It was cool, but at the time I drove a Jeep so no auto crossing for me. Now that they built that casino the auto xing is no more.

Well. I'm not trying to be an artist for a living or anything, but I enjoy art. Whether it be drawing (not very good, but still fun to doodle sometimes), photography (I want to get back to using my manual camera, as my iphone is the only thing I have been using recently and it is...limited), or whatever I'm inspired to do (made a belt buckle the other day out of bottle caps lol). I also am a lover of art. How about yourself?

Awesome man. I looked at a bunch of your drawings/pictures. I especially liked "Shadows on the Wall"...I love black & white photography and I love playing with shadows. I don't have my pictures on a site, or I'd link them. It doesn't look like I can post pictures in the comments on my own thread either lol.

Oh man I guess you don't daily your then (with out a top) lol...or do you? I do love the color that's what drew me to the '96 M...it really classes it up especially with the black and tan interior...just beautiful. My engine has almost 85,000 miles on it so hopefully no rebuild anytime soon. Btw I have a fair amount of bumps and scratches that don't show up in the pictures...it's far from perfect, but it's still beautiful to me!

Thanks, I really did enjoy your art though. I just attempted to draw a car the first time in a while the other day and it was ok I guess, you'd think I'd be better growing up with my mom being an artist, but I just rarely draw...so that's probably why. I like to shoot more so than draw. I've been wanting to get back into using my manual vivitar, but I haven't yet...you may have inspired me just enough to re-learn what I had learned years ago in my high school photog class!

I'm actually the only artist in my family, I have no idea where it came from. My camera setup is a Nikon D3100, a 55-200mm lens, a 18-55mm lens, and a Japanese made 300v Vivitar 283 Auto-Thrysistor SLR flash that I got for 30 bucks if I may shamelessly brag

Maybe artistic ability isn't something that's passed down from family. Sounds like a good set up (I know very little about photog equipment lol). I'll tell you what though, Denver or Colorado in general has got to be the place to be for shooting. It is beautiful there; I may find myself out there at some point (it's just so far from home).

You are right, its not genetic, but I had no outside influence. I became an artist all on my own which is rare. My flash is older than me, lets just say that. If you ever find yourself in colorado, look me up we'll go shooting together.

Its an older top with the glass rear window. Idiots who build these tops do a crap job sewing in a heavy glass window so the rear window is falling down and there are two really small tears in the top. Yes I do daily it. it doesnt leak unless rain shot horizontal into the rear window.

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh got ya. It sounds like you could use some kind of sealant on those small rips...that would probably fix it right up. My soft top is unusable as it is and it seems like a pretty difficult job replacing the top on it (and I replaced the top on my jeep tj) so I will just use the hard top for now. I may go ahead and just remove the soft top entirely, but we'll see.

yeah I used some glue in the holes but I just need to get a robbins XT or something I dont even think the rear window could be fixed as the zipper is tearing out at the stiches on either side of it.

I gots the add too
